Le FaouBetween the sea land (armor) and the inland (argoat), le Faou blends the maritime and countryside Brittany, just in between the Crozon peninsula and the moors of Monts d’Arrée. An open door on the natural park of Armorique and the forest of Cranou, Le Faou managed to make the best of its natural resources. As soon as the Brest arsenal was created in1631, the exploitation of beech wood (breton name of the village), the port became very busy. Carpentry wood was shipped from there, and fertilisers were sent inland. The village had its golden age in the 16th, as can be seen from the houses on the main square. On the place des Résistants, a prison was used as a relay for those sent to the labour colony (bagne) in Brest.
